Southington Land Trust recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Organized in 1973, the land trust not only conserves open space, but hosts regular educational presentations on wide-ranging topics with experts in the fields of geology, wildlife, forestry, tracking, and more.
BSA Scouts work can be seen at multiple SLT properties as Scouts build birdhouses, bat boxes, bridges and boardwalks to earn their badges.
Southington Land Trust’s Pollinator Pathway, led by Shari Guarino, is committed to improving habitat and biodiversity. Pollinator Pathway volunteers have planted dozens of native trees and shrubs in Southington, focused on the rail trail. The Pollinator Pathway continues to hold regular winter seed sowing workshops at SPL, and has located a free “seed library” in the library building for residents to start their own native plant gardens.
